FYNE BALANCE

By Helen Buchanan

Hi, I’m Helen

I’m a pilates instructor and remedial massage therapist based in Wye River on Victoria’s spectacular Great Ocean Road.

I’m passionate about empowering my clients with the tools to independently manage their own physical and mental wellbeing.

My classes and practise incorporate teachings of breath work and meditation; skills learned over decades of pilates, yoga and functional movement.

I look forward to working with you and teaching you techniques and tools for a long and healthy life.

“Helen’s classes are informed by many forms of practice, and draw on a depth of knowledge and insight that only comes from years of learning and experience. A key focus of Helen’s is developing a deeper awareness in the body. I believe this is an important component to any practice and one many teachers do not take the time to develop in their students. This awareness not only makes you stronger and work harder but builds a framework for a lifetime of healthy movement.”

— Tim, Separation Creek.

PILATES CLASSES

Set against an invigorating backdrop of ocean views, Fyne Balance holds mat pilates classes at the Wye River Surf Lifesaving Club.

“Helen is like the matriarch of body work. She seems to have a deep wiseness to her - amazing knowledge, energy and light. I have found her classes to be the perfect balance of hard and soft, and especially love the amazing Tibetan bowl vibrations at the end, like a gift. She is a very special teacher.”

— Jacinda, Separation Creek.

1:1 PILATES

Private pilates sessions allow us to perform a whole body structural analysis and design a program tailored to your unique needs.

Whether you are dealing with a long term injury or simply need to build your flexibility and strength, together we can work to repair any damage and develop control and endurance in your body.

MASSAGE

Remedial massage not only aims to alleviate stress and ease tension, but to treat muscles that are damaged, knotted or immobile.

Incorporating Hot Stone Therapy to encourage blood flow throughout the body, we can work to correct postural issues and increase joint mobility and strength.

MEDITATION

A natural stress stabiliser, meditation aims to put our mind in complete harmony with itself.

Working with the harmonics of old Tibetan singing bowls, in these sessions we aim to ease mental or emotional pain and leave you feeling calm, centred and grounded.

“Helen is one of those impossible-to-find practitioners who is truly committed to her clients and their longterm wellbeing. She’s a natural teacher, and generously shares her wisdom in her classes. Her teachings in the basics of breathing and functional movement will stay with me for life.”

— Bek, Grey River.

“Being a professional basketball player I rely heavily on my body. Helen’s massages help keep my body supple and relaxed, and are very regenerative for both body and mind.”

— Jock, Melbourne.
